Tokom poslednje decenije 20. veka, politički trileri nisu bili previše cenjena roba. Problem? Ko je tačno neprijatelj: SSSR se raspao kao loša žurka, Kina se otvorila za kapitalizam, IRA već spremna na mirovni dogovor. Bliski istok jeste obećavao, ali veoma stidljivo.
Filmski svet je dobio svoju šansu jutra septembra 11. 2001, a novi neprijatelj se kristalizovao kao čisti dilitijum.
Nije bilo više nikakve sumlje: neprijatelj je postao fundamentalni, militantni islam, sakriven u brdima i bespućima Afrike i Azije. Njegov cilj: uništenje svega što smatramo vrednim (primetite da i nas optimistično ubrajam u tu grupu).
Ili baš i nije tako? Iako zapadni mediji često pružaju veoma polarisanu sliku, verovatno je sada već svima jasno da stvarnost nije tako prosta. Kao i svaki drugi fenomen, frustracija mladih u arapskom svetu kuvala se decenijama – van zemlje, njihov svet diktiraju velike sile, usresređene na sopstvene ciljeve. Unutar zemlje, najverovatnije žive pod diktaturama koje zapad podržava, gde lokalni El Presidente mislim veoma malo na Alaha, najmilostivijeg, a veoma mnogo na svoje račune u Švajcarskoj. Poblemi palestinske države, Iraka, Libana samo su dodatne močvare.
U globalu, Bliski istok nije izvukao dobre post-kolonijalne karte, a ni jedan bombaš-samoubica nije zombi ispranog mozga, već čovek koji se oseća kao da nema drugi izlaz.
Neki filmovi su pokušali da istraže ovaj fenomen – ’’Kraljevstvo’’ je apsudrno plitko, a ’’Sirijana’’ je jedan od njih koji je uspeo u tome. Sa druge strane, ’’Rendition’’ ostaje negde u sredini.
Doduše, centralna tema ovog ostvarenja jeste američki obaveštajni sistem koji može da iskoristi proces zvan ’’Extraordinary rendition’’, kada hapsi stranca na svom tlu, ali ga odmah prebacuje u treću zemlju, najčešće neku koja nema problem sa mučenjem zatvorenika.
Ovo se događa Anvaru El-Ibrahimu, inžineru koji 20 godina živi i radi u SAD. Njega CIA hvata na aerodromu, briše sve podatke da je ušao u zemlju, a zatim šalje u Egipat. Tako je samo 18 sati ranije samoubilački napad usmrtio šefa lokalne obaveštajne kancelarije. El-Ibrahim je osumnjičen za povezanost sa grupom koja je preuzela odgovornost, pa zato mora da bude ispitivan. Odlični Džejk Džilenhal glumi Daglasa Frimena, privremenog šefa CIA u Egiptu koji prisustvuje njegovom mučenju, obaveštavajući istovremno svog nadređenog u Vašingtonu, Corin Vitmen, ženu kojoj cilj opravdava svako sve, u tumačenju uvek ubedljive Meril Strip.
Problem je što El-Ibrahim ne daje podatke, a njegova trudna žena u SAD nema pojma šta mu se dogodilo.
Paralelno, film prati mladi egipatski par koji zloćudno proživljava studentske dane u defakto policijskoj državi.
Bez sumlje, ovaj film je pravi poligon za odlične glumce. Bukvalno svaka od desetak glavnih uloga je poverena sjajnom talentu. Od Strip i Džilenhala, preko
Ris Vitesput koja je veoma ubedljiva kao očajna supruga, Piter Sarsgarda i Alen Arkina. Bliskoistoči segment glumačke postave takođe je veoma dobro odabran.
Sam zaplet nije toliko snažan. Iako film podvlači poruku o ceni zakrivljenja pravila koja su postavljena da štite slobode, priča je predvidljiva i zapliće samu sebe u pomalo propovedajući/zakerajući čvor.
Da, mučenje ljudi je loša stvar, čak i ako se čini za sigurnost nevinih.
Da je na neki neobičniji način film uspeo da provuče ovu ideju, bio bi drastično upečatljiviji.
Ali to bi ga već smestilo na gornju policu kvaliteta. Međutim, gledajući skromnu biografiju režisera Gavina Huda, neki od njegovih budućih radova veoma lako mogu da se nađu tamo.
